Castles, fortresses, ruins

Castle LEMBERK

First an early Gothic style guard fortress, mentioned as early as in 1241. In the 16th century a Renaissance castle was built here. One of the most interesting halls is the late Renaissance Fable Hall, called by its cassette ceiling with 77 paintings based on Aesop's fables. Castle's kitchen of the 17th century is still functional.

Castle PLOSKOVICE

First this castle was mentioned around the end of the 15th century. In its interior you will see old furniture, paintings, porcelain, collection of bowls and wine-glasses from Novy Bor of the 19th century. The Barocco gloriet is still in the garden.

Castle VELKÉ BŘEZNO

Originally Empire-style castle built in 1842-45 was rebuilt in Neo-Renaissance style in1885-1910. Historical interiors of the castle with old furniture resembles The Hotkovs residence

Castle BENEŠOV NAD PLOUČNICÍ

Castle complex consists of 2 separate smaller castles. In the Upper Castle are painting exhibitions and gobelins, and an exhibition of old Far East art. In the Lower Castle you can get to know the way of life of 16-18th centuries' aristocracy.

Fortress KOKOŘÍN

The history of the fortress begins in 1320

 

Fortress BEZĎEZ

The Gothic-style fortress was founded by Premysl Otakar II in 1264-78

Fortress HOUSKA

Initially a Gothic-style fortress, built in the beginning of the 13th century.

 

           
Places of interest

MACHOVO LAKE

In Summer you have an opportunity to swim and boat trips. The lake is situated at 275 m above sea level near Doksy in our region. It was dug in 1366 by the order of Emperor Charles IV. Nowadays the area of the lake is 280 hectare.
